What is a Mud?

A MUD is a on-line game where players can interact with each other and the world around them. There are many graphical games which are similar such as World of Warcraft, Silk Road and Guild Wars. Unlike these games, MUDs don’t have graphics. They’re played using text and commands.

Now that sounds scary, A game without graphics? It has its plus sides. MUDs get the creative juices flowing. They utilize the imagination to project the game world its inhabitants, surroundings and everything you as a player interact with. The other side of it is, that without the need for graphical design for all objects, rooms, characters, sound work, rendering. The developers can focus on making a better game. With in depth worlds, economical systems, political structures, Loads of quests and lots of things to do.

There are a number of different mud types.

• Roleplay MUDs - Where you become apart of the world. Playing your role of a charcter of your choosing.
• PlayerKilling MUDs - Where you train and advance your character to go head to head with other players.
• SocialMUDs - where its all about interacting,
• Hack and Slash MUDs - Where its all about killing monsters and getting tough.

There also MUDs covering all sorts of themes including, Discworld, Wheel of Time, Starwars, Lord of the Rings, DragonBallZ and many many more muds with their own unique themes and worlds.
